I still remember when I purchased my first real piece of art.
I was on travel in Arizona at this incredible resort in Scottsdale. Every morning I'd get up early, and go for a walk to get my Chai Tea Latte at a nearby Starbucks. That walk took me past this wonderful little gallery whose window displayed works by Jean Richardson. Ms. Richardson painted horses in the abstract with vibrant colors and passionate strokes. I stopped at that window every morning, and stared. I couldn't take my eyes off how she captured the spirit of those magnificent animals and their purposeful movements.
For some, the decision to purchase something so beautiful would have been easy, if you love it then buy it. For me the decision was far more difficult because as much as I loved it, I couldn't afford it.
I thought about that piece every day, and when I got my first professional job I did two things... I bought my first car... and I bought one of her paintings which still lives over my fireplace even today.
The Candidly Gallery (& Tales of Wanderlust Blog) came to be because of the love and encouragement of a very small group of friends. For a long time I would share cloud photo albums of my travels taken with my iPhone, and each time someone would say, 'Given how amazing these are; can you imagine what you could do with a real camera?' Then you know what happened? I bought one with the help of my good friends David (The Brookover Gallery in Jackson Hole, WY) and Larry (Fuji). The vision grew... and Candidly was born. I couldn't be more grateful for their guidance & support.
My eyes love light, shadows, flowers, food, water and color... sometimes in the strangest of places and at the most unexpected moments. Some photographers specialize in animals, some in landscapes, some in people. Here you'll find a variety of genres; some that will make you smile; some that will make you reflect; and even some that will make you hungry.
I hope you find a photograph that fills your soul's space, the way it filled mine the moment I took it.
The Candidly Gallery is dedicated to BL for his mentorship, love and support. The Tales of Wanderlust Blog is dedicated to CN for her friendship, kindness, and encouragement. My cup runneth over.

Don't give up. Don't ever give up.
Jim Valvano was a very successful basketball coach, a national champion and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer. But as great a coach as he was, his legend was born from the kind of human he was. Caring. Emotional. Funny. Passionate. Legendary. Jim Valvano turned his own cancer journey into a legacy that is saving lives decades after his passing.
While cancer ultimately took his life, Jim remained focused on helping others. In his last months, he teamed up with ESPN to form The V Foundation for Cancer Research. To date, the V Foundation has granted over $310 million to cancer research. As Jim said, “cancer research may not save my life, it may save my children’s lives. It may save someone you love.”
